Inadequate Security/crime victim lawsuit (Lunford)

Doyle LLP Trial Lawyers has been retained by a victim of a serious crime in a case alleging inadequate security against VLive@Vintage Steakhouse, LLC d/b/a VLive Houston, 8000 Interests, Ltd., and DG Interests, Inc. The suit alleges that 8000 Interests, as the property owner was negligent in that it allowed VLive to operate an unsafe facility that was a public nuisance.

VLive Houston, which was operated at 6213 Richmond Avenue, operated an after-hours night club that became known for multiple violent incidents, including shootings, the violent beating of a prominent Houstonian, and other acts of violence. In spite of these incidences, 8000 Interests, who was the property owner, allowed VLive to continue operating without any attempt to secure areas of the property that fell within its control. In fact, the Harris County Attorneys’ Office sent a notice to 8000 Interests providing evidence that VLive was the site of prior violent attacks, was serving liquor without a license, was operating a sexually-oriented business without a license, and was a public nuisance, among other problems. The lawsuit alleges that 8000 Interests took little or no action to stop the violence at VLive.

As a result, on September 5, 2016, Doyle LLP’s client suffered a serious injury when he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The gunshot left Doyle LLP’s client completely blind. The suit seeks compensation for the lost earning capacity, pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, and medical expenses that Doyle LLP’s client has suffered in the past and will suffer in the future.

The suit is pending in the 129th District Court of Harris County, Texas. The case will be tried to a Jury of Harris County citizens in late 2018.
